Arka uses a hierarchical role system to ensure your data is always accessed by the right people with the right level of authority.
The Role Hierarchy
Every workspace member is assigned one of five primary roles, each defining their capabilities within the container.
- Owner: The creator of the workspace. Full control over billing, deletion, and high-level security settings.
- Admin: Secondary authority. Can manage members, edit all content, and configure workspace-wide integrations.
- Member: The standard collaborative role. Can create, edit, and organize notes, databases, and notebooks.
- Viewer: Read-only access. Perfect for clients or stakeholders who need to see progress without making changes.
- Guest: Limited access. Typically assigned to external contributors who only need access to specific items.
Permission Overrides
Arka allows for granular control over individual notebooks and files.
- Notebook Sharing: Override workspace roles by granting specific users 'Edit' or 'View' access to individual notebooks.
- Content Locking: Admins can 'Lock' specific notes to prevent further editing, even for other Admins.
- Zero-Knowledge Enforcement: Permissions are technically enforced via Workspace Key unwrapping logic, ensuring unauthorzied roles cannot decrypt content.
Step-by-Step: Managing Workspace Roles
Maintain strict access control with these simple steps:
- Navigate to the Members list in your Workspace Settings.
- Locate the user whose permissions you want to modify.
- Assign Role: Use the dropdown menu to select between Owner, Admin, Member, or Viewer.
- Security Wrap: Arka will automatically update the user's access keys to match their new role level.
- Verify: The user's interface will instantly adapt, hiding or showing administrative tools based on your selection.
